So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;

      In life sometimes we are faced with one setback after another setback. We may face setbacks regarding our finances or our health. Recently I decided to back to school. After taking a class for a certain major I realized that it was not a good fit and I made the decision to drop the class. Unfortunately, I missed the class drop deadline by 2 days. Long story short I am now responsible for the full cost of the course. Paying for that course out of pocket will be a huge financial set back, but this was an experience where I had the opportunity to learn and grow. I also had to reminded myself that when I made this costly decision that the world did not end. I am thankful for the opportunity to pivot, and to go in another direction regarding my education as I take steps to make a career change in my late 30's. 

    Throughout our lives we work hard and make plans and then suddenly everything falls through. During these times it can be hard to understand and embrace God’s timing and greater plan. We don't have to view our setbacks as a punishment or that something is not right in our relationship with God. Last Sunday I had a chance to dig deeper into the story of Joseph (reference Genesis 37-50). Joseph faced many setbacks as a teenager and young adult. While reading the parts of his story that we don't hear about in Sunday School or in Vacation Bible School I saw God's forgiveness and redemption. God gave Joseph the strength and wisdom to handle the variety of difficult situations that came his way. I don't know what you are facing in your life right now. My hope is that you won't let the setbacks stop you from trusting God, and from moving forward to what God has in store next!

 

                                                                                         Prayer

Dear God,

      We come before you seeking comfort and guidance in this season of our lives where we seem to be faced with one setback after another setback. Sometimes it seems like we work so hard and make plans, and then things don't go accord to our plans which can be disappointing and more. At times it can be hard to understand and embrace your timing and greater plan. Thank you that we do not have to face life’s challenges alone. Please remind us of your unwavering love and presence during these challenging times. May we be reminded that your plans for us are good, even when we face disappointments and setbacks. Provide us with the strength, persevere, resilience, and the wisdom to learn from each experience. Help us to be a light to others who may be struggling as well. The challenges we are facing will not last forever.

In Jesus' Name We Pray,

  Another Birthday Single.... “I will be your God throughout your lifetime -- until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you (Isaiah 46:4, New Living Translation)        Is it possible to look forward to and then not look forward to your birthday at the same time? I am thankful for the blessing of another birthday, but it is the getting older part that is hard. Growing up I never got those extravagant birthdays. Even though I am an only child my dad would often forget my birthday, which hurt so much year after year.
